Skopelos island is part of the Sporades, located centrally in Greece, mid-way between Athens and Thessaloniki. There are many ways to reach Skopelos island outlined below. We can provide telephone numbers for local car hire and taxi companies, for example to pre-book a taxi from the airport to the port and then the water taxi.
The closest airport is Skiathos International Airport (JSI) on the neighbouring island of Skiathos. From May to October, you can fly direct from many major European cities to Skiathos and then hop on a ferry for a short ride to Skopelos. From within Greece, there are directly flights throughout the year from Athens to Skiathos with both Aegean Air and Sky Express.
A short five-minute taxi ride from airport arrivals takes you to the port from where you can catch a ferry or water taxi over to Skopelos. The taxi stand is clearly marked outside the Arrivals area.
From Skiathos it is a short boat ride to Skopelos with a regular daily service of hydrofoil and car ferries. Ferry tickets can be booked online in advance, with most services provided by Seajets, Blue Star Ferries and Hellenic Seaways.
The journey from Skiathos to Skopelos Town takes around 1 hour, or you can take a shorter crossing to Glossa to then continue by road to the Skopelos town, which takes a similar amount of time.
There are ferries throughout the year from Volos, and in the main season other ports including Thessaloniki and Evia offer additional ferry routes.
Water taxis can be arranged to travel direct between Skiathos to Glossa or Agnondas (the latter has a spectacular restaurant on the harbour front). The water taxi can be combined with a taxi between Skiathos port and the airport.
There are several car rental options on the island and we would recommend a four-wheel drive to enjoy the island to the most. Your hire care can be waiting for you at the port of your choice.
